Through the small hours each turret records in infrared, out to 30 m. As soon as its AI detects a person or vehicle, a warm white light with the same 30 m reach comes on and the recording changes to colour — Smart Dual Light’s way of giving the Dahua 4 channel CCTV kit colour night vision — until the scene goes quiet and the turret returns to infrared.
A front door that faces a bright street puts a caller against the glare. The turret’s 120 dB wide dynamic range handles that contrast, so more of the caller’s face comes through against the bright street behind.

Running the two turrets is the DHI-NVR4104HS-P-AI/ANZ, a slim 1U recorder with four IP channels rated for cameras to 16MP, an 80 Mbps limit on incoming video and four PoE ports built to IEEE 802.3af/at.
A television with an HDMI input can show both cameras from the recorder at up to 4K, while a monitor on its VGA output runs at 1920 × 1080.
