Dahua DH-IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE 8MP 4K WizMind AI Camera, People Counting – 2.8mm Turret, Infrared 50m, Face Detection, PoE, IP67

On a Dahua job where the client wants more than a picture, the Dahua IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE 8MP WizMind turret does the analysis itself: it counts people, runs intrusion and tripwire rules, detects faces and tags vehicles and people by their attributes, then hands those events to the Dahua recorder. WizMind is the Dahua series it belongs to, and in this 8MP turret camera it sits behind a 2.8 mm lens with a 111° horizontal view.

Behind the lens of the Dahua IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE 8MP WizMind turret sits a 1/1.8″ sensor with Deeplight night vision, so colour holds down to 0.0008 lux before infrared takes over. The analytics run on the camera rather than leaning on the recorder alone, and the metal inner core and cover are sealed to IP67. For the installer, that is one model to quote where a client wants counting, rules and searchable footage from the same unit.

Dahua IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE 8MP WizMind turret at Night — Deeplight and Infrared to 50 m

The 1/1.8″ CMOS and F1.6 lens gather light for Deeplight night vision: colour down to 0.0008 lux, black and white to 0.0004 lux, and 0 lux with the infrared on. Two IR LEDs reach up to 50 m, with smart illumination adjusting their output. 120 dB WDR handles bright sky and deep shade in one frame, BLC, HLC and 3D NR clean up difficult light, and the AI ISP tunes the image.

Intrusion and Tripwire Rules on the Dahua IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE 8MP WizMind turret — WizMind Perimeter Protection

Dahua’s WizMind perimeter protection gives three rule types — intrusion, tripwire and fast moving — and each one classifies what triggers it as a person, a vehicle or an animal, so the rule can be set to the class the job calls for. Loitering detection marks someone who stays in a zone past the time you set; people gathering detection marks a crowd forming; parking detection marks a vehicle stopped in a zone you draw. Abandoned and missing object detection notes an item left behind or taken away, SMD 3.0 runs smart motion detection, and a long-distance mode is listed for the rules.

People Counting and Search on the Dahua IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE 8MP WizMind turret — Queues, Heat Maps and Metadata

Tripwire people counting and people counting in an area run alongside queue management, with up to 4 rules and reports by day, week, month and year; a heat map shows where people gathered over time. Video metadata records motor vehicles, non-motor vehicles, faces and human bodies as snapshots with attributes — vehicle type, colour and logo; clothing, bag and hat. Face detection works as Dahua’s sheet states it: detection, tracking and optimised snapshots, with six face attributes and eight expressions. With a back-end Dahua recorder, AcuPick searches the footage, and a Smart NVR adds smart search. Together they make the Dahua IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE 8MP WizMind turret a counting and search camera as much as a recording one.

Fitting the Dahua IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE 8MP WizMind turret — Power, IP67 Metal Housing, Audio and Alarm Contacts

As a PoE camera it needs one Cat6 run to an IEEE 802.3af port, drawing 8.8 W at most; it also takes ePoE or 12 VDC (6.8 W max), with dual power backup supported. The metal inner core and cover are sealed to IP67 and rated from −40 °C to 60 °C. Sound is captured by the built-in microphone, the RCA audio input and output connect external audio gear, and the alarm contacts link external alarm devices to the camera’s rules. A microSD slot holds up to 1 TB on board (card not included).

Who Buys the Dahua IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE 8MP WizMind turret — Sites, Managers and Integrators

🏢 Stores, offices and venues — the manager gets headcounts, queue lengths and a heat map, reported by day, week, month or year, from the same camera that records the footage.

🏭 Warehouses, yards and car parks — intrusion and tripwire rules that classify people, vehicles and animals, with loitering and parking detection for the hours the site is shut.

🔧 Integrators on Dahua jobs — ONVIF Profiles S, G, T, M, SDK and CGI for third-party platforms, DSS and SmartPSS Lite for management, the DMSS app for iOS and Android, and AcuPick with a Dahua recorder.

Dahua DH-IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE vs Dahua DH-IPC-HDW3667EM-S-IL-ANZ — Counting and Search, or a Simpler Rule Set

If the job calls for people counting, queue reports, face detection or searchable metadata, the Dahua DH-IPC-HDW5842TM-ASE carries them, along with the larger 1/1.8″ sensor, infrared to 50 m and a 1 TB card slot. If the brief is intrusion and tripwire rules for people and vehicles with a choice of IR or warm light up to 30 m, the 6MP Dahua DH-IPC-HDW3667EM-S-IL-ANZ covers that, with SMD 4.0 and a 512 GB card slot.
